Getting the message across

Cancer awareness and controlling diabetes, two camps bring lifestyle management techniques to the local villagers

Excellent organisation by the MBCF staff at the centre allowed our next two camps to run very smoothly. The first camp, a Cancer Awareness Camp, took place on 8th September 2007 courtesy of the same senior medical team from Thakupukur Cancer Hospital. Three seminars were given at local High Schools attended by a total of over 2000 students and adults. The seminars were highly successful with regard to getting the information across to the local population. cancer camp

The second camp, a Diabetes Camp, took place on 9th September 2007 courtesy of Sanofi-Aventis, which is a major US based pharmaceutical company, this allowed Haven to provide a comprehensive diabetes camp on 9th September 2007. It has been noticed that in this area diabetes is a condition, which is unusually common. Eighty patients were seen, tested for blood sugar levels, prescribed and given medication where required. The visiting medical team also gave several seminars to the attending patients to bring about awareness of diabetes and in particular of life style management for the diabetic patients. Haven is indebted to Sanat Chattopadhya for arranging this camp through Sanofi-Aventis.
