Paediatric Referrals Camp March 2015
Dr Atanu Dutta's annual leave turns into a busman's holiday as patients queue up for his attention at the Haven Community Centre
Upon his return to the UK, consultant paediatrician Dr Atanu Dutta entered the following post in his Facebook page:
Breathing new life into the fabric of a village in India, Haven is infusing 'Atla' and its neighbourhood with new dreams and desires and creating a safe Haven for it's residents by organising free medical camps, education, life skills events, training programmes and a multitude of initiatives designed to make a beautiful dream come true and help 'Atla' truly emerge !
Holidays are precious moments in everyone's lives. They give us the chance to relax and unwind from our usual busy lives and few of us would wish to interrupt these brief interludes of rest. Not so for Dr Dutta who took it upon himself to approach Haven with his idea for overseeing the referrals put forward from the medical camps held in February during his family holiday in India. The grateful patients arrived at the Haven Centre on the 16th of March and benefited greatly from his skillful care.
With his expert knowledge and close attention to detail, Dr Dutta was able to diagnose the immediate threat of loss of life to one of the patients. As a result of his careful examination, the young lady in question will be having heart surgery in the next two weeks at the Ananda Lok Hospital in Kolkata. Haven has already put the necessary arrangements in place to ensure everything runs to plan and we all hope she safely returns to her family with a new found lease of life. So taken was Dr Dutta with Haven's work that, in his other role as President of Royal Berkshire Bengali Association RBBA, he and his committee have organised a dinner dance on the 18th of April with the sole purpose of raising funds to support the treatment of referred patients from our medical camps. Haven would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr Dutta for his amazing kindness in generously giving his time to help some of the most misfortunate people in the world.
