Physio Camp January 2009

Emotional moments as highly trained physiotherapists bring comfort and care to the most disadvantaged children in the local area

The very first of our medical camps for 2009 began with the Physio Camp held 12th - 14th January. Haven member Sushovan Ghosh, with his infectious enthusiasm, inspired two UK based physiotherapists to travel to Atla to run a Physio Camp from 12-14th January 2009.

Katherine Ready, who has always been wanting to travel to India to help in some way, is the physiotherapist for the British Olympic Rowing Team; the 500 patients who arrived for the Physio camp were certainly in safe hands! The high level of treatment Katherine provided ensured comfort and relief to all her patients

Equally as passionate about helping the needy in India, Lucinda Brimicombe is a highly specialised neuro-physiotherapist. The expert care she was able to so sensitively provide to the forty children with cerebral palsy who arrived at the camp, opened many peoples' eyes to the amazing potential of such specialised physiotherapy. The level of relief she was able to provide to these very special children was beyond belief.

Katherine and Lucinda worked tirelessly to bring relief to each and every person; they also held excercise classes everyday to develop awareness and teach fitness routines. For the forty children with cerebral palsy and their families, a special party took place with balloons and face painting as a celebration of their lives. It was a very emotional moment for everyone.

Haven are indebted to both Katherine and Lucinda and thank them for their kindness.
