The 2015 Haven Sponsored Walk

A crowd of fifty descend on the Surrey Hills in a show of support for Haven.

On 12th of April 2015, a bright and breezy morning greeted all the walkers, who had very kindly offered their Sunday morning to take part in this year's Haven Sponsored Walk. The picturesque countryside surrounding the well-trodden North Downs Way provided the perfect setting to introduce newcomers to our annual event, which helps to fundraise and to build awareness of the charity.

Walkers were greeted by the oasis of freshly brewed coffee and speciality muffins at the halfway point of their three hour trek along the banks of the Tilling Bourne at Shere Village. This break provided the ideal opportunity to share past experiences of Haven's work both in the UK and in rural India, giving the newcomers a chance to learn more about the charity as a whole.

The last winding mile has always proved to be a challenge to most participants, up the backbreaking path to the top of Newland's Corner, and this year was no different. But spirits were lifted by the glorious vista of the valley below, now bathed in afternoon sunshine: a beautiful backdrop to a well-earned picnic.

Haven would like to thank all our friends for their invaluable support, and a special mention must go to the team from our corporate sponsor Transputec, who travelled a long distance to take part. If you would like to see more of the Transputec team in action, visit their blog.

This year's walk had a record attendance and was hugely successful in raising funds. Thanks to the generosity of all who took part, we were able to help the referred patients from our recent medical camps held at Haven's community centre in Atla Village, West Bengal.
