The 2019 Haven Sponsored Walk

Haven's annual fundraising event proves to be as popular as ever with our loyal group of supporters.

All of us at Haven wonder at how something so familiar can still be so refreshing at the same time. But this is exactly how we feel when each year we gather to gaze before us at Newland's Corner, something we have been doing for the past 15 years since this event began in 2004. This year proved to be no exception when, on the morning of Sunday 28th April, our 70 strong team of walkers paused to take in the much loved, recognisable views of the Surrey Hills Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty.

This year's Sponsored Walk Appeal was all about raising funds to support patients from our numerous medical camps with their costs towards their referral surgeries and treatments. By coming together we wanted to give these patients the best medicine there is: hope for a better, more healthy future.

With this thought uppermost in our minds, we set off on the route we've grown to know and love with it's variety of picturesque scenes and settings. As we reached our midpoint, the pop-up Haven café was ready and waiting with much needed refreshments for all of us. In addition, icy cold water was on hand to whet the exuberance of our army of faithful, four-legged companions who, as usual, made sure to walk many more miles than their human counterparts!

A take on "Mongini's Chicken Patties", the famous Kolkata streetfood, was introduced and our supporters were more than happy to polish them off at the end of the last one mile of the walk: a steep uphill climb. The wonderful weather meant that walkers stayed on for an impromptu picnic that allowed everyone to recover and enjoy the sunshine before heading home.

Haven would like to thank all those who attended, and congratulate everyone on raising over £7,500 in sponsorship! A superb total that will do an enormous amount for this very important appeal.
