Time well spent

Our first gap student, Amy Downes, volunteers her time at the centre during October 2005.

Whilst  Amy was there she set up the internet and e-mail facilities, she introduced the concept of a dump for waste disposal involving the use of an incinerator, the heat generated from this is then used to provide hot water for the centre.

Amy also involved the children from the learning centre in a gardening project which greatly improved the aesthetics of the centre.

During Amy's stay, a forty foot container was sent by Haven from the UK. This contained furniture, clothing, books, learning aids and other items. These were invaluable in the setting up of the centre. Amy helped in the organisation and distribution of all the equipment and clothing which was a huge task and involved a great deal of work.
