HAVEN: Creating the infrastructure

We decided the best way to help the poor in rural India was by adopting a village in which we would build a community support centre. The centre would have medical, learning and elderly day care facilities. The villagers would have free use of all amenities in the centre. Once this stage was complete we would then move into the village itself to provide clean water, sanitation and electricity.

The village we have adopted is AMaptla Village in Tarapith, Birbhum, West Bengal, India.

In order to achieve our aims, we had to set up our registered partner charity in India, recognised by the Indian government. This partner charity carries out all our essential work, on the ground in India, with the funds raised by Haven. This organisation is called the Sri Sri Mohanananda Brahmachari Charitable Foundation, MBCF.
Both Haven and MBCF are secular organisations and have no affinity to any religion, race, colour or creed.

Haven's youth involvement has been actively encouraged from the start, resulting in The Haven Heroes: a division made up of children.
