True to our name, our adopted village, Atla, in Tarapith, West Bengal has "emerged new" thanks to our installations of solar power and sanitation facilities, purpose built housing for washing and bathing and outlets for fresh drinking water

The inspiration to form Haven has come from Sri Sri Mohanananda Brahmachari, a great Hindu sage, who travelled the world for over fifty years until his demise in 1999. He passionately believed in helping the poor to become self sufficient in health and education and had established numerous charitable institutions during his lifetime.

With this vision in mind, his disciple, the late Sri Sri Kalyanananda Brahmachari became the founding member of our partner organisation in India: the  Sri Sri Mohanananda Brahmachari Charitable Foundation, MBCF.

The village we have adopted is Atla Village in Tarapith, Birbhum, West Bengal, India.

In order to achieve our aims, we had to set up our registered partner charity in India, recognised by the Indian government. This partner charity carries out all our essential work, on the ground in India, with the funds raised by Haven. This organisation is called the Sri Sri Mohanananda Brahmachari Charitable Foundation, MBCF.
Both Haven and MBCF are totally secular organisations and are not affiliated to any culture, creed, race or religion.

Haven's youth involvement has been actively encouraged from the start, resulting in The Haven Heroes: a division made up of children.

On Monday 25th January 2016, The Haven Academy was inaugurated. Thanks to Rickie Seghal’s amazing generosity and his hard working team at Transputec, the Haven centre now has a fully functioning IT suite comprehensively equipped with new, top of the range computers. In addition, Transputec has installed all the required infrastructure so that there is excellent broadband internet, Skype and high quality Wi-Fi throughout the entire building.

A team has been put in place to oversee The Academy, which will include technical hardware and network support, IT training at the centre, a Haven Academy course coordinator, and a Transputec course coordinator. Course coordinators are, at present, in discussion regarding course structure, content and specific learning packages to best serve our Youth Group and others.

80 students have enrolled into The Haven Academy and they have all been advised that, before the start date of 11th February, course content and timetables will be finalised and then issued. The students have also been informed that the Academy will be run in an orderly manner by an Administrator. Each student will be required to sign a register upon attending, use a dedicated learning portal, and carry their photo ID at all times. In addition, to monitor their progress, the students have been advised that regular testing will take place. All those who have enrolled are excited and extremely happy with all of the arrangements. The students’ feedback has clearly shown Haven just how much they welcome this chance to further their education in an area which was never available to them before. They are well aware of how vital IT skills are to them, to move forward in the outside world beyond their rural surroundings.

Transputec

A statement from Rickie Sehgal CEO about Transputec's sponsorship of Haven:

“Haven is a unique charity that invest every penny from its donors back into providing services to the underprivileged people of rural West Bengal in India. We are honoured to be associated with them and for the past few years have been supporting the incredible work they do. I and the rest of the Transputec team look forward to working more closely with them in the future, supporting them in any way we can.”

Transputec is one of the UK’s leading technology management companies. The company manages Cloud technologies for hundreds of companies of all sizes.

Founded in 1984, the company began when two computer scientists – Rickie and Sonny Sehgal, educated at Harvard and Imperial College – developed applications for the banking industry to migrate to a full IT service organisation.

In 1995 it was one of the first major IT businesses to develop and promote Cloud computing technologies.  The Sehgals, who like to think of themselves as “corporate geeks”, founded Transputec to take advantage of the rapid growth in the personal computer industry, which began in the early 1980s.

Rickie and Sonny both believe in giving back and helping the community; they take great pride in partnering with Haven.
